An infographic portraying false crime perception in New York City, used as an attempt to
convince my mom that it is indeed safe to move there. I’ve wanted to move to New York ever
since I visited in 2011 for dance nationals, but one thing stopping me was always the crime rates (along with the freezing cold).

What if I told you that the horrible crime in New York is fake. Well, not completely, but some of it.
The news and media play a significant role in developing public perceptions of crime rates, specifically
in New York City. Crime is perceived to be at records high, obscuring the fact that it is still at decades long lows, in tie with when the city was proclaimed to be the “safest big city”.
